Wadhwancity is a very mythological city. Though many ancient places are there, This Kshemshankar Mahadev temple is one of this. Wadhawancity is taluka place of Surendranagar district, Gujarat, India. In this temple self-existent phallus situated there. The history of this temple is much interesting.
Many years ago, one man of this city had habituated to worship of Lord Shiva each and every day. After worship he had taken a piece of grain. The temple of lord Shiva, which was worshiped by this man was situated far from town. In monsoon, continuous 12 days he could not go for worship and due to this he had to suffer from fast. Lord Shiva delighted on this man for his devotion and came in dream. Lord Shiva ordered him to dig on bhogavo riverbank where red cow sat. The devotee follow this order and found this phallus.
From those days, after so many years still this phallus worshiped by devotees. The temple is known by the name "Vagheshvari Mandir". In this temple many shrines are situated. During hindu Shravan month on every Monday 12 AM big worship organised and whole the temple decorated. The silver Mahadev shaped mask set on the phallus and this look of idol like a Mahadev Shiva present himself. The atmosphere of this temple very amazing during this programs.
